Abstract 2

So this week’s blog is a continuation from last week and I will be completing the decoration and the hemming of the skirt.

First off is the skirt.

All I had to do with the skirt this week is hem it all around the edges. Now there are a couple of ways to do the hemming, but I have decided to just roll hem it on the sewing machine, with just the chiffon its self.

Normally I would sew the top part onto elastic to give a bit of give when taking the leotard on and off. However because this skirt is asymmetric in a big way, the lycra across one way isn’t restricted and it will maintain its stretch.

And the last thing to happen with the skirt is to give it a steam as I’ve had this particular chiffon since 2009, so it is a little creased!

Now to the decorating!!!

I don’t want to cover the lace too much with stones, I just want enhance the lace.

So I have used black holographic glitter through out all the lace pieces; one, to keep it black and two so it will still sparkle LOTS! I have also stuck to using minimal colours of stones.

However the real hassle was the back of this leotard. Which you would remember I was not loving what I had done last week with the large triangle shape. I tried many things to try and make this back work and match the front.

I got to a point that I thought it was ok. But while I was sewing other leotards today it was just staring at me saying it still wasn’t working.

(Excuse the photo, I started playing around with a few ideas and then didn’t want to take everything off to get a photo!!)

So while I was just staring at the back I made a little pros and cons list of what I like at that current moment. And one of the sections that I like was the black elastic.

Now I had previously tried to add more black elastic but it just didn’t work. Then I was thinking that maybe I should continue the red lace down as the only section was on the side of the body. This then cued light bulb moment!

Therefore I’ve used his style of colour blocking in black lines to continue the red lace. Which meant then I could continue the lace to join to join the two sections.
